EcoPrestige | Structural Steel Modular Buildings for Australian Builders

Transportable Buildings Western Australia: Perth, Pilbara and Regional WA 2026

Builders, mining contractors, village operators and shires in Western Australia face distances no other state matches. A building for Karratha, Newman, the Wheatbelt or the outer Perth suburbs has to be staffed, supplied and supervised a long way from the nearest crew. EcoPrestige supplies engineered structural steel volumetric modules, built and inspected in an offsite factory, so the WA builder installs finished modules instead of running a long site build.

What transportable means in WA

In industry use, a transportable building is finished offsite and moved to site on a truck in one or more pieces. It is permanent or relocatable depending on its footings and approvals. A permanent transportable building needs a building permit like any other building. Our guide to modular vs portable vs transportable buildings sets out the difference for camps that may later relocate.

Why modular fits Western Australia

The Pilbara Development Commission counted 80,432 workforce accommodation beds in December 2025, projected to reach 91,435 by 2028, with many villages already at capacity. Adding beds to a running village means working around shift changes, live services and safety rules. Modules arrive finished, so the time crews spend inside an operating village is shorter. Our page on modular workforce accommodation for WA mining covers village layouts in more detail.

Housing is the other pressure. The WA Government announced a Housing Innovation Fund for 15 local housing manufacturers on 24 May 2026, and a record level of extra housing investment in the 2026-27 Budget. The Department of Education also runs modular kindy, pre-primary and toilet block programs each school year, with the 2026 mid-year round awarded on 9 Sep 2026.

What EcoPrestige supplies

  • Engineered steel volumetric modules, welded in the offsite factory and inspected on the factory floor by the project engineer before dispatch.
  • Accommodation modules, typically Class 1b or 3; site and project offices, typically Class 5 or 10a; and homes, typically Class 1a, each confirmed by your building surveyor.
  • Frames and tie-downs checked by the engineer for cyclonic and non-cyclonic wind regions before we quote.
  • A supply price quoted for your site, once the route, footings and use are known.

Construction and mine sites needing short-term space can also see our modular site offices page.

What does not fit

Some WA jobs are better built on site. Sites where the haul route has bridge or seasonal restrictions that rule out a loaded truck, very wide open structures such as workshops and hangars, and buildings that must match an existing masonry streetscape in an older Perth suburb are examples. Cyclone region sites can work, but only after the engineer has confirmed the frame and hold-downs. EcoPrestige is not a builder. A registered WA builder carries the head contract and the site.

The WA approval path

EcoPrestige coordinates the module design with your consultants; permit drawings are issued by the registered or licensed practitioner the state requires. A registered building surveyor checks the design against the NCC and issues a certificate of design compliance. The local government, as permit authority, issues the building permit, and commercial classes need an occupancy permit at the end. The surveyor certifies, not the supplier. Read our page on building permits for modular buildings.

The programme

Factory and site work run in parallel. While the permit is processed and the builder prepares footings, power, water and sewer at the village or lot, the modules are fabricated and inspected in the factory. Trucks are scheduled to the footing sign-off, so time on site is shorter and fewer workers need beds during the build.

What to send us

  • 1. The site, or the nearest town and the haul route for remote work.
  • 2. The use, the number of beds or occupants, and the expected NCC class.
  • 3. The wind region and any geotechnical report.
  • 4. Whether the building is permanent or relocatable, and the expected life on site.
  • 5. Your builder, your village operator if any, and the target occupancy date.

The Pilbara Development Commission counted 80,432 workforce accommodation beds in December 2025, projected to reach 91,435 by 2028, with many villages at capacity.

Do transportable buildings need a building permit in WA?
Yes. A permanent transportable building needs a building permit like any other building. The local government issues it after a building surveyor certifies the design.

Can modules be used in cyclone regions?
They can, once the engineer has confirmed the frame and hold-downs for the wind region of the site. We check this before quoting.

What NCC class is a mining village room?
Workforce accommodation is typically Class 1b or 3, confirmed by your building surveyor.
